Anti-Racist Policy

Our position on racism, and how to report it

Effective date: August 15th, 2026

1. Purpose

Surplus-GY is committed to a diverse, inclusive and equitable environment in Guyana and beyond, where everyone is treated with dignity and respect. This policy sets out our position on racism and what we do about it.

2. Who This Applies To

This policy applies to everyone who takes part in Surplus-GY: our employees, our customers, the vendors who sell on our marketplace, our delivery partners and anyone else acting on our behalf.

It covers conduct on our website and apps, in our messaging tools, in product listings and reviews, and in any dealing that arises from using Surplus-GY, including at the point of delivery.

3. Our Position

  • Discrimination or harassment based on race, ethnicity, colour, national origin or indigenous identity will not be tolerated.
  • Racist language, imagery or symbols must not appear in listings, product descriptions, shop names, reviews, messages or profile content.
  • Nobody may be refused service, given inferior service, or charged differently on the basis of race, ethnicity or national origin. This applies to vendors dealing with shoppers, and to delivery partners dealing with recipients.
  • Surplus-GY actively promotes diversity and inclusion in hiring, promotions and partnerships.
  • We do not permit items that promote racial hatred to be listed on the marketplace.

4. Reporting

If you are a customer, vendor or delivery partner

Report it to us at customerservice@surplusgy.com, or through the contact details at the end of this policy. Tell us what happened, and include an order number, a listing link or a shop name where you have one, so that we can identify who was involved.

If you are an employee

Report it to the Human Resources Department, or to any member of the management team if that is not appropriate in the circumstances.

You can report an incident that happened to you, or one you witnessed.

5. How We Respond

We investigate every report. Depending on what we find, we may:

  • Remove a listing, review, message or shop name
  • Restrict, suspend or close a vendor or customer account
  • Remove a delivery partner from the platform
  • Take disciplinary action, up to and including dismissal, where an employee is responsible
  • Report the matter to the authorities where the law requires it or where it is appropriate to do so

We aim to acknowledge a report within 2 working days and to tell you the outcome once the investigation is complete.

6. No Retaliation

Nobody will be penalised for making a report in good faith. Retaliation against someone who reports an incident, or who takes part in an investigation, is itself a breach of this policy and will be dealt with in the same way.

7. Education and Review

We provide training on anti-racism and cultural awareness to our employees, and we review this policy regularly to make sure it continues to reflect how we operate.
