The Pitman arm is connected to the steering box's sector shaft. As the steering wheel turns, the sector shaft moves, which causes the Pitman arm to move in a reciprocating motion. This motion is then transferred to the wheels through a series of linkages. The wheels turn in response to the steering wheel's motion.
